Meeting of First Secretary of Algeria Embassy with Director of Iran Privatization Organization

Public relations liaison of Iran Privatization Organization reported Pouri-hosseini in meeting with TaharMohdeb, first secretary of Algeria embassy stated “Privatization’s history in Iran goes back to 18 years ago, based on which we have the responsibility of reducing state ownership and management of companies.”

Director of IPO stated according to law, private sector has the right to buy up to 100 percent shares of each state-owned company. In terms of land divestitures, there are restrictions of divestiture to foreign private sector. But there are no restrictions on divestiture of state-owned company shares.“

Director of IPO while mentioning there were restrictions in divestiture to foreign investors in the beginning of privatization, noted “Ratification of Principle 44 ended these restrictions. For instance, according to law ownership of oil and gas reservoirs will be preserved to the state, while divestiture of oil and gas distribution companies is possible. Also a significant number of powerhouses were also divested.”

Pouri-hosseini implied participation of real private sector is more prominent in Iran than Algeria and remarked “Iran is ready to share its experiences and knowledge with Algeria in the field of privatization to private sector.”

TaharMohdeb, First secretary of Algeria Embassy implied state governance of companies is immense and remarked “There has been short and small improvements in the subject of privatization in Algeria, even unsuccessful. However, after dependence of Algeria proper and good measures has been taken towards privatization. While privatization in the utilities, water, electricity and energy also in health is not on the agenda of privatization in Algeria. “
